More About Aaron

'Azthetic' Poetry

How did you get started in poetry and spoken word?

"My journey with poetry began during the lockdown in 2020. What started as a pastime quickly became a passion and due to my love for words; how they sound and the images they make, the name ‘Azthetic Poetry’ was born."

Today, Aaron shares his poetry on stages across the UK, having participated in and won numerous poetry slams. He also adapted a series of his poems into a compelling one-man stage production titled ‘Say Less,’ which enjoyed a brief national tour.

Performances

Why did you start performing?

“I’ve always been a bit of an attention junkie. My first performance was a primary school production of ‘The Bad-Tempered Lady Bird’. In which I flew around the stage, threatened lots of animals I had no business threatening and then flew away to find a new opponent. The laughter and applause heard from that performance has always stayed with me and set me on the path that I’m on now.”

What’s your favourite part of being on stage?

“The connection you build with the audience. I love the energy that an audience can bring to a performance, theatres can have a real electric feeling to them. Of course, I still enjoy getting a round of applause and a laugh at a joke. But as I’ve grown, I’ve realised that the feeling of joy and laughter that we actors provide allows that audience member to escape all that is going on, and just live and enjoy that singular moment. I find that really powerful and that part of my job gives me so much pride.”

Workshops

What workshops do you run?

“I run both poetry and acting workshops for all age groups. I currently run classes at the Swan Theatre in Worcester. I have also done workshops in schools. Both working on performances or doing bespoke workshops on the subjects students are studying.”

Why do you do workshops?

“I really enjoy watching people experience things they never thought they could, or achieve goals they never thought they could achieve. The workshops that I run are never to tell people what to do but to give people tools or different outlooks that will hopefully spark their own creativity. I like to emphasise the creative process and take pressure off the product."
